And yes, besides the ruins, we also reserved some time for lounging on the various beaches of the Yucatan
First Celestun on the west, the Gulf of Mexico, beautiful small quiet fishing village where we spent Christmas very quiet, a little too much for the girls! Almost alone in the beach resort, after an 8-km track, totally alone on the beach very nice, very clean, with companions as pelicans and crabs.
the menu's Eve cider Mexican things change, the lobster and the devil, we were the only guests at the restaurant with pool, could not help but make a crazy but not too much because the girls were ashamed!
Colors and pelicans have reminded us of the Roques for those who were part of it is ... a number of years.
Then Isla Cozumel on the east side Caribbean Sea, 15 miles offshore, very quiet at night but invaded during the day by hordes of Americans discharged from cruise ships docking in the day: earnings menus and prices are in dollars, souvenir shops abound, there is ketchup and mayo on the tables and guacamole is always ready (in the small villages of Yucatan, we were told repeatedly that lawyers were not ripe aujoud'hui !!!). In short we loved using this island to Yankee pot-bellied. Fortunately we could escape the city!
The windward coast is wild and rocky beach with a straw hut with food and drink to tourists and other convertible 4x4 buggy. not many people, beautiful swimming in the waves.
Check on the leeward coast and there is the shock: access to water is confiscated, as in Florida, and must show their credentials to the entry of private beaches that offer benches with cushions, parasols, Margarita, huts chic ... This is also where I drank my best Margarita! Snorkelling in water filled with beautiful reef fish! Thank you to Coastal Law in France!
The last night we stayed in Puerto Morelos, the last authentic village that resists, between Playa del Carmen and Cancun (but for how long?) Builders of luxury resorts which completely confiscate a strip 2 km side: we know something because we have visited a few (or 250 complete fraud per person per night) trying desperately room on the 30th between 11:30 am and 2 am. Remark was a bit daring! Basically, there is an entrance porch with barrier between you and it is 1-2 km before arriving at the hotel, sometimes there are 4m high wall all along the road is staggering ! the backpacker does not mince his words elsewhere: here is corruption and company for the allocation of land! We hated it!
Fortunately, at 2 am, we finally found a room on the beach in this village connected we highly recommend: it looks like probably what this magnificent coastline 20 years ago, before the creation of Cancun to unclog Acapulco: here no hotel-resort but small pensions and private houses, a beach accessible to all, a coral reef roaring at 500m, a turquoise color (but that's the standard), Mexican families on the beach, fishing boats that bring some divers on the fence, fishing, pubs connected open at 2AM and still full of little nooks that remain to be discovered! Go there quickly if you can it will not last!
